Just wanted to wish the 30 Hour Famine Participants Good Luck as the begin their fasting. Hang in there.
What follows is the first page of the Friday Devotional book that was written to aid you as you begin the 30 Hour Famine.

Whether this is your first 30 Hour Famine or you are a
“veteran” of this event, you are being asked to make it your fight this
year. What does that mean? Make what your fight? Is this just about raising a few dollars for
hungry kids? Maybe you just want to add
another service project to your personal checklist. Some are just following the lead of
another. Whatever the reason you have
arrived at this point in your life, it is the hope of the leaders of this event
that you become a fighter for those that are in need.
Approaching this year’s Famine the challenge to MAKE IT
YOUR FIGHT brought a question that was asked of Jesus to mind. And who is my neighbor? (Luke 10:29) That is what this is about. Helping neighbors. The question you have to ask yourself and
maybe even answer on Saturday for someone else is who is my neighbor? We live in a culture that claims to be Christ
Followers, but when it comes to helping neighbors things change.
We are OK helping someone as long as we know that they
are people who share our values. We want
to put conditions on our help. It is
very easy to then pick only those that look similar to us. Those that might be a different color,
different shape, poorer, had made mistakes, loved differently, been in jail,
sick, or just different. Soon our call
from Christ to “Tend my Sheep” (John 21:16) becomes us sitting in judgment.
Be aware whom you are fighting for. These are people that live drastically
different lives from us. They are
different, they are the other.
